A list of some of my recommended Pagan and Witchy Reads
5/21/20253 min read
Here is a list of some of the books I have enjoyed, and come back to time and again; and recommend for new and old practitioners alike. There are some perennial favourites that you will find on many lists of this kind such as the works of Scott Cunningham, and they are great I also recommend these. But in this list I have tried to highlight some books that may be a little off the well trodden path of other lists (and a few well known titles I just couldn't resist adding). This is of course shaped by my own interests and practice so if you have any recommendations for me to add, send me a message!

Quick(ish) Reads:
The Sun, The Seasons & The Soul by Wyn Abbot
Well known artist, and author Wyn Abbot's guide to the Wheel of the Year. A wide ranging look at the history and mythology of celebrating the changing seasons.
Sacred Earth Celebrations by Glennie Kindred
Glennie Kindred's work is deeply rooted in the Celtic traditions. This book has suggestions for rituals big or small for each Festival, and explores what it means. Like most of her work this is a reminder that we are part of a living tradition.
Pagan Portals: Kitchen Witchcraft and Pagan Portals: Moon Magic by Rachel Patterson
Two books (also available as one volume) that focus on two popular forms of magic. Rachel Patterson's guide to Kitchen Witchcraft, is primarily a guide to creating a magical home. Moon Magic is a quick read introducing the magic of each moon phase, and how to work with the energy of the moon.
Lazy Witchcraft for Crazy, Sh*tty Days by Andrea Samayoa
An approach to witchcraft that closely mirrors my own so of course I enjoyed this! I particularly recommend this for anyone struggling to begin, or maintain a practice.
Pagan Portals: Candle Magic by Lucya Starza
A deep dive into Candle Magic; a deceptively simple practice. I recommend Candle Magic in general as a practice as it is one that can be as simple or complex as you want to make it. This book explains the mechanics, and history of Candle Magic allowing the reader to better understand what it is we are doing when lighting (or extinguishing) a candle.
Deeper Dives:
Witchcraft on a Shoestring by Deborah Blake
Recently republished, and probably very well timed! A reminder that witchcraft is a practice that does not have to be elaborate, pretty, or costly. Use what you have!
The Inner Mysteries by Janet Farrar & Gavin Bone
Two very well known names within Wicca. This is a very practical guide to the practice of modern witchcraft and Wicca. A reassuring read for those going through a period of change within their practice, but also a guide to understanding how magic works.
Walking the Tides by Nigel G. Pearson
A deep dive into the the seasons, and seasonal lore of Britain. Divided into Seasons this books explores the British folk traditions, and helps the reader ground their observance of the Wheel of the Year in lived experience of the world around us.
Runes Rebooted & Ogham and The Wood Wide Web by Wendy Trevennor
Two books that bring these traditional alphabets, divinatory, and magical systems into the modern world. These are excellent guides to the wisdom contained in the Elder Futhark, and Ogham.
Natural Magic by Doreen Valiente
I would define this book as a classic. Focused on folk, and animist traditions and practice this is a book that will guide you through some historical charms, and also explain how they work. A reminder that magic is all around, and the reader doesn't need to reach far to find it.
Priestess of the Morrigan by Stephanie Woodfield
A book specifically written about, and for the Morrigan and those who worship her. However it is also of interest to those interested in deity work, and also priestess work. Filled with personal experience, and wise advice about what it is like to worship and serve a deity.
